Joshua Kerry faces new terror charges, with Nigel Farage among the alleged targets. Mr. Kerry, 28, already stands accused of murdering former minister Ann Widdecombe. Police confirmed the charges relate to the preparation of terrorist acts.
Counter-terrorism police stated Mr. Kerry was charged on Friday. These allegations cover activities said to have occurred between May 2024 and July 2026. He is due in court next Wednesday regarding these new terror charges.
Previously, Mr. Kerry was charged in July with Ms. Widdecombe’s murder. The 78-year-old former Conservative minister and Reform UK spokeswoman was found dead on July 9. She had sustained serious injuries at her home in Haytor, Devon.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood addressed the new developments. She acknowledged the “extremely concerning” nature of the fresh charge. Furthermore, she extended her “profound sympathies” to Mr. Farage and his family.
Ms. Mahmood stressed the gravity of attacks on politicians. “An attack on anyone in politics is an attack on us all,” she declared. This case, she added, raises serious questions about public figures’ security. She pledged to update Parliament on strengthened protections upon its return.
A Reform UK source commented on the situation. They indicated the charges validated Mr. Farage’s need for security funding. Mr. Farage faces a parliamentary probe concerning a £5 million gift from a donor. He has previously stated this money was for his personal security.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans spoke for Counter Terrorism Policing. She described the investigation leading to these new Joshua Kerry terror charges as “hugely intensive and complex.” A dedicated team of experts spearheaded the effort, she explained. Moreover, detectives, analysts, and forensic specialists worked across multiple lines of enquiry.
Frank Ferguson of the Crown Prosecution Service also weighed in. He affirmed close cooperation between prosecutors and police. This collaboration brought about the charge. Investigators will continue their joint efforts as the inquiry progresses.
Ms. Widdecombe had a distinguished career. She served as Conservative MP for Maidstone in Kent for 23 years. In the 1990s, she held ministerial roles under Sir John Major’s government. After leaving the Commons, she gained further public recognition on “Strictly Come Dancing” before becoming a Reform UK spokeswoman.
