Police have granted bail to five individuals previously held in connection with Fairford terror arrests. These men were initially detained near RAF Fairford on suspicion of terrorism offences. Their release comes with stringent conditions on movement and contact.

A significant incident unfolded early Sunday morning. Dozens of homes required evacuation after authorities received alerts about three suspicious vehicles near the Gloucestershire airbase. A local farmer’s 999 call initiated the rapid police response.

The five men are all British nationals. They are in their early twenties, aged between 23 and 25. All reside in London, with three from Westminster, one from Camden, and another from Willesden. Initially, officers arrested them under the Explosives Act. Subsequently, they faced further arrest on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.

Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) continues to investigate the matter thoroughly. Officers are exploring various lines of inquiry. This includes potential involvement by proxies or individuals working on behalf of a foreign state. Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor confirmed the suspicious vehicles underwent extensive examination. Military assets and forensic experts supported this detailed analysis.

The incident has drawn high-level attention. Prime Minister Andy Burnham chaired a Cobra meeting on Monday afternoon. He urged the public to avoid speculation as full facts emerge. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed surprise at the suspects’ release on bail. He stated his administration would not have granted bail, despite close cooperation with the UK.

The Iranian embassy in London has strongly refuted any connection. It “categorically rejects” and “condemns” what it terms “unfounded and malicious speculations.” Such claims, it added, only fuel “Iranophobia propaganda.” RAF Fairford holds strategic importance, serving as a long-standing forward operating location for the US Air Force. Recently, US bombers have departed from there for the Middle East, after UK approval for defensive strikes against Iran. Iran previously warned that any base used for aggression against its territory would be a legitimate target.

A large cordon remains in place around the three vehicles near the base. However, most of the 85 evacuated households have now returned home. Airspace restrictions also apply above RAF Fairford. No flying is permitted within an 8km zone without official permission. Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Temporary Chief Constable Maggie Blyth noted the incident had placed the “quiet and peaceful communities” under international media scrutiny.
