Vernon Kay recently offered a candid glimpse into Jeremy Vine’s true nature, revealing the Radio 2 presenter’s unexpected personality off-air. Kay appeared on BBC Breakfast to promote the upcoming BBC Radio 2 in the Park event. He described his co-host as far from his serious public image.
During the interview, hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt probed Kay about the festival atmosphere. Kay quickly named Rylan Clark as the primary “mischief maker.” However, when asked if Jeremy Vine was the “teacher,” Kay emphatically disagreed.
Instead, Kay humorously likened Vine to a student “flicking wet tissue at the teacher.” He stated that the current affairs presenter is “the mischievous one” and a “naughty boy.” Consequently, Jeremy Vine’s true nature is far more fun-loving than his professional facade suggests.
Kay, who hosts the weekday mid-morning slot, shares a playful rapport with Vine. In July, Vine issued a lighthearted warning to Kay. This followed Kay’s playful threat to expose Vine’s “secret nights out.”
Kay had previously spoken about sharing “pints” with Andy Burnham in Manchester. Vine then joked that talking about meeting Burnham would sound like “name-dropping.” Kay also revealed a past visit to Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country retreat.
Kay described Burnham simply as a “nice bloke.” He added that Vine had never experienced a night out in Leigh with Burnham. Vine, however, quipped that “nice doesn’t always cut it” in politics. Kay retorted that it certainly does on a night out with friends.
